Child Vaccination
Child vaccination is a cost-effective and proven immunization program to prevent a child from dreadful diseases. Every country in this world follows this program to protect their children and focuses high on controlling and minimizing the infant death rate. Immunization builds the immunity in the child and develops the antibodies in them to fight against diseases.
Child Vaccination-Importance
Government and private organizations are spreading the awareness on child vaccinations in the society. Today, the rich and the poor has the consciousness of immunizing their children and protecting their children from many frightful diseases like diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, poliomyelitis, measles, hepatitis B etc.
Child Vaccination-History
The first vaccine was discovered by Edward Jenner in 1796 when he inoculated a 13-year-old child with vaccinia virus (cowpox) and was able to demonstrate immunity to the human disease smallpox. The smallpox vaccine was developed in 1798 and gradually mass smallpox immunization terminated this disease globally. Louis Pasteur’s experiments lead to the development of cholera vaccine and plague vaccine in 18th and 19th centuries respectively. During this century bacterial vaccine development proliferated, including the Bacillis-Calmette-Guerin (BCG) vaccination. Alexander Glenny developed a method to inactivate tetanus toxin with formaldehyde and this method helped in developing the vaccine against diphtheria in 1926. The viral tissue culture methods led to the arrival of the oral polio vaccine which helped in eradicating the disease from many regions of the world. The practice of developing vaccination did not pause here; many more vaccines were developed through human experience and experiments.
Child Vaccination-Things to know
It is the responsibility of the parents to ensure their child is vaccinated; protected from diseases and is healthy. Do not forget that mother’s milk is the best food for the infant as it provides the necessary antibodies and strengthens the child’s immunity, however, this immunity needs to be further enhanced through vaccination as it protects the child for lifelong. The vaccine is not given to the baby at one go but on a fixed schedule. Your child’s doctor will advise you on the vaccination process.
